Volunteers bring friendship and companionship to older adult clients through home visits and phone calls to those who are isolated from the outside world. Weekly or biweekly calls or visits are recommended, but we request connecting at least once a month with your client.

Perhaps you’d just like to designate one special day a year when you and your loved ones can volunteer together as a family. Or maybe you are a student who would like to do a community service project with your class. We have wonderful opportunities for all ages. One way to do this is by offering your professional expertise (legal, financial, etc.) and conducting no-cost individual consultations to help JFCS clients navigate legal issues or better manage their money. You may also opt to hold your own food drive for our Betsy and Peter Fischer Food Pantries. Similarly, you can hold a gift drive during a holiday season, collect personal care items for our domestic violence clients, or come up with your own special way to make a difference!

SOAR (Social Opportunities and Recreation) offers fun social and recreational activities for adults who require more support in a group setting. SOAR events are led by a professional staff member, along with numerous volunteers who have been trained to work with adults with developmental disabilities. The staffing ratio for all events is approximately 1:3, ensuring that each participant gets the attention they need to fully enjoy the activity. Activities are held monthly, generally on Sunday afternoons.

The goal of this program is to develop programs and services in support of individuals with disabilities and their families, so that they can lead more independent and fulfilled lives as citizens of our community. Volunteers can help in several ways.

 Join us for a meaningful volunteer opportunity supporting and assisting individuals living with memory challenges.

Volunteers will attend a one-hour training at our office to become familiar with the role, including how to engage in conversation with someone experiencing memory challenges such as dementia or other cognitive decline.

Volunteers must be available for at least three Café Connection sessions throughout the year. Sign-ups are sent out monthly. Café Connection takes place on the second Thursday of each month (note: April 2026 will be rescheduled due to Passover). Volunteers arrive at 10:00 AM and stay until approximately 12:10 PM. The program runs until 12:00 PM.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make meaningful connections and bring joy to participants in a warm, supportive environment.

Help a client who cannot get out by providing assistance as their personal shopper. Shopping includes grocery shopping and may include ordering items online on behalf of the client.

JFCS, in conjunction with Tools for School, is collecting donations of new school supplies and backpacks to benefit students in need in our community. These school supplies help to ensure that all students have the necessary tools for learning and academic success.  When students have the right supplies, they feel more prepared and confident in their ability to learn, and can positively impact their engagement and participation in class.  

If you’re interested in volunteering, you can organize your own collection of school supplies and drop them off at our agency!

We are looking for volunteers with a background in accounting or finance to help parents of children with disabilities plan for their children's long-term financial security.

Volunteer Teachers at To Our Positive Success (TOPS): Our enrichment day program volunteers lead classes in areas such as art, music, and computers.

Responsible for fostering engagement, education, fundraising, and ambassadorship. The heart of our Board's work is building and strengthening relationships to advance JFCS's mission. Members will help to facilitate the work of the R&D Subcommittees*, which every Board member engages in to support the work of this larger R & D Committee.

*R&D Subcommittees are based on the R&D Menu of Options, which , as active contributors to the foundation of JFCS, Board members are expected to join one of 3 areas based on their interests:

• Education and Relationship Building Sub-Committee: Focuses on deepening Board members' knowledge of JFCS and building connections with the community.
• Fundraising Sub-Committee: Concentrates efforts on developing and executing fundraising campaigns and events.
• Ambassadorship Sub-Committee: Centers on spreading awareness of JFCS's work and impact as organizational ambassadors.

Are you good with Microsoft Office Suite, willing to learn new software, enjoy making phone calls, or happy to help stuffing envelopes? Volunteers provide additional office support to our Director of Volunteers, our Volunteer Project Coordinator, and other staff by helping with mailings, administrative tasks and other office projects.

Building Healthy Relationships (BHR): Volunteers may assist with classroom presentations in both middle schools and high schools.

Pro Bono Financial Services: Volunteers will provide free financial advice to victims. Volunteers must be a professional in the financial field. Volunteers need to be sensitive and have knowledge about domestic violence issues.

JFCS and Samaritan have a partnership agreement to bring the comfort of Jewish traditions and values to Hospice care. Volunteers can visit seriously ill patients and their families, often providing respite care for the family members.  These volunteers are required to be vetted by Samaritan, including references and a background check. Each volunteer is also required to attend 12 hours of classroom training and one hour of in the field training.  They will be required to have initial PPD testing for Rubeola, Rubella, and Varicella titers, plus clearance from their doctor saying that they are fit to volunteer.
